Asia in Fusion 3

Montreal, March 12, 2008 - Following the excitement of 2007’s Asia in Fusion, The Festival Accès Asie invites Montreal to this year’s edition, Asia in Fusion 2008, a fundraiser to be held at the Sala Rossa on April 3rd 2008 at 9:30pm. This evening will be the unveiling of the May 2008 program as well as an opportunity to network between the public and Asian arts organizations. Hosted by celebrated Montreal singer Cheryl Sim and visual artist Kakim Goh, the event features excerpts from the artists to be presented and a chance to win two tickets to Glasgow, Scotland.

The celebration will begin with the musical and visual rhythms of DJ Guapo and VJ Pink Rubber Lady. They will establish the welcoming vibe with their original compositions and kick off the program in high spirits. DJ Guapo multi-tasks as composer, musician, producer and turntabalist. His music is a sensual blend of ethnic and electronic rhythms that guarantees a unique ambiance. Well versed in electro dance parties, VJ Pink Rubber Lady has delighted Montreal audiences with her fantastical visual shows. Her experience as a filmmaker translates in this form with her use of narrative elements and human touch.

Two original performances follow. First up is Taikonauts, a group which launches audiences into the rhythmic world of taiko drums (Ignatius Kim, Alison Roe, Isabelle Doucet) with flute accents (Isabelle Doucet). Shanghai poet and artist, Shin Uet Wang, presents his slam poetry around the themes of identity and exile.

An excerpt of multi-disciplinary performance Éclats noctures (an intruiging interpretation based on the theme of meditation) follows. The original paintings of Khosro Berahmandi serve as the inspiration for musicians Ziya Tabassian (tombak), Shuni Tsou (dizi) and Nicolas Coloia (double-bass) to create their layered melodies which in turn spark the work of filmmaker Shahin Pahami and the dancer/choreographer Geneviève La. This extraordinary quintet creates a work of fusion of arts and cultures in an unforgettable symphony of images and sounds.

Finally, Bollywood Blast, a group created by Ina Bhowmick (Montreal-known Indian dancer), closes the program. A joyous and vibrant addition to the pop culture canon, Bollywood can no longer be ignored as the force it is, and the Festival Accès Asie would be remiss to omit a selection in this increasingly relevant tradition. So join us for this evening of enchantment, which is guaranteed to stimulate all senses!
