Shuni Tsou and Nicolas Caloia

Shuni Tsou is a bamboo flautist classically trained in the Chinese opera and folk music disciplines. Well versed in the traditions from her native Taiwan. She is the 1996 National Champion of Chinese bamboo flute in Taiwan and the recipient of the 2004 Young Artist Grant awarded by the Washington DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Nicolas Caloia is a long time member of Montreal's avant-garde music community and has performed with internationally renowned artists like Joe McPhee, Joe Giardullo, Steve Lacy, Hassan Hakmoun, and Tristan Honsinger. For many years he led, and recorded with his own group, the Ratchet orchestra, a group dedicated to performing original music, as well as the music of Sun Ra.
