Born in India, Ina Bhowmick grew up in a universe infused with the glamour of Bollywood movies. At age five, while performing on stage, she is recruited by the prestigious school Kala Bharati Center. There, she begins her training in Indian classical dance. Assisted and encouraged by her parents, the young girl is recognized for her promising talent and soon performs on the center stage.
In her adolescence, Ina Bhowmick leaves the Kala Bharati Center and discovers other dance styles: hip-hop, African dance, belly dancing, jazz and reggae. Attracted to various artistic expressions, she learns every style and explores the possibilities offered by Fusion dance. It is in that fascinating blend that Ina feels the most comfortable. Combining the movements of modern dances and Indian classical dance, the Bollywood Fusion dance gives Ina the indispensable space and liberty to fully express the fantasy of her art.
Ina Bhowmick, a truly international artist, loves to immerse herself in projects both stimulating and wild. As a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and advisor, she has worked in India, Canada and the United-States for television, radio and cinema. She also participated in numerous events presenting a unique dance style which bridges between the East and the West and succeeds to amaze the audience. Over the past four years, she manages her own dance company, Bollywood Blast.
Recently, the Montreal public had the privilege to view her work at le Cabaret du Casino de Montréal in the musical Bombay Bleu, la route de la soie, and at La Place des Arts in Milan 2K5. Acclaimed by the critics for her performance at the South Asian Cultural Festival in North-America (Masala! Mehndi! Masti!) held in Toronto 2005, Ina Bhowmick has been invited to perform this year in Montreal for Canada's July 1st national holiday.
