A descendant of mighty Samurai warrior-philosophers, Tetsuro Shigematsu was born in London, England, educated in Montréal, and worked as a salaryman in Tokyo. Tetsuro has studied Butoh with Kazuo Ohno, painting with Guido Molinari, and poetry with Allen Ginsberg.
Tetsuro first became known through his solo work, /Rising Son/, through which he entertainingly explored question of identity and angst as an Asian Canadian. A former writer for the /This Hour has 22 Minutes/, Tetsuro also hosted /The Roundup/ on CBC Radio, a daily 2-hour radio show heard across Canada. He has also performed as a standup comedian at comedy festivals all across the country.
Most recently, Tetsuro could be seen as the pop culture critic for CBC Newsworld in Los Angeles, where he completed his directorial debut, the critically acclaimed, award-winning /Yellow Fellas/, breaking attendance records at last year's Fantasia Film Festival, and which National Post described as a "a hilarious send-up of diversity politics."
