Accès Asie presents four annual events of multi-disciplinary works with over seventy artists and groups of primarily Asian origin. The Festival defines Asia as a continent and includes people from : East Asia (China, Japan, Korea); South Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka); Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam); Central & Middle Eastern Asia (Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Afghanistan and Armenia).
Event I : Asia in Fusion Spring, one evening
Asia in Fusion is a fundraising party to achieve a wide array of goals: the promotion of Asian culture in Montreal; the announcement of Festival Accès Asie's upcoming program for the year; the celebrations of the month of May as Asian Heritage Month ; to finance new multidisciplinary Asian-inspired artistic projects; and to provide financial support to the Asha Foundation for Education, an organization which helps underprivileged children in India to gain access to education.
Event II : May Month, spring, two weeks
The month of May is being celebrated as "Asian Heritage Month" in over twelve cities across Canada. Festival Accès Asie is the longest running Asian Heritage Festival in Canada and celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2005. The Festival presents over thirty local and national works of artists of primarily Asian origin. The contemporary program consists of multi-disciplinary works such as music, dance, new media, film, new technology, performance and visual arts attracting a public of 2,000 occurring in over ten venues in Montreal's downtown quarters.
Event III : Chinese Garden, summer, 4 days
In collaboration with the Chinese Garden of the Montreal Botanical Garden, this annual event is a four-day celebration with three thirty minute sets per day with two groups. With traditionally based dance and music performances, over seventeen local and national artists and community groups attract a public of 5,000 in an outdoor idyllic environment.
Event IV : Journée de la culture, autumn, one day
This Festival collaboration with Centre Gesù is an outreach that includes a performance and activities to involve the public. The open house setting creates a relaxed environment to network and to cultivate a new public.
